The coordinator of Left Bloc, Pureza, harshly criticized the Government's response to the lack of teachers in Portuguese schools, describing the government's explanations as "empty talk." The accusation comes at a time when thousands of teaching positions remain unfilled in schools across the country.
According to Pureza, the situation of students without teachers creates "a dimension of turbulence, some chaos, in people's lives." The Left Bloc coordinator emphasized the negative impact that this shortage of teachers has directly on students and their families.
The politician considered that the Government has not addressed the underlying problem which, in his view, is related to the "cost of living." This reference suggests that Pureza understands that the root of the lack of teachers is linked to economic issues that make the profession less attractive.
The criticism from Left Bloc comes in a context of the beginning of the school year marked by difficulties in hiring teachers, a recurring problem in the Portuguese educational system that affects thousands of students throughout the country.
