A civic demonstration called "Cheaper Fuels and 6% VAT" travelled the route between Largo da Feira in Espinho and Prime Minister Luís Montenegro's residence in Espinho on 12 September 2026. The march ended near the Prime Minister's home, symbolising the direct demand for political measures to lower fuel prices.
The protest brought together citizens, workers, farmers, truck drivers, transport operators, motorists, bikers and families. These groups shared common concerns regarding rising fuel costs, the overall cost of living and the tax burden affecting Portuguese daily life.
The movement aimed to give voice to the concerns of these population sectors, which have been feeling the impact of continuous fuel price increases. The choice to end the demonstration at the Prime Minister's home was intended to directly pressure the Executive to take concrete measures to reduce taxation on fuels.
