A brush fire broke out this afternoon in Canhas, in Ponta do Sol, due to an unauthorized controlled burn. The fire consumed vegetation in the area and prompted an alert to the authorities.
After receiving the alert, the Mixed Firefighters of Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol were immediately mobilized to the location. The fire station dispatched two vehicles, a light one and a heavy one, to combat the fire.
The fire was eventually extinguished by the firefighters on site. After the flames were brought under control, the operatives are now in the smoldering phase, working to ensure there is no risk of reignition.
