Penafiel will dedicate a week to mobility and coexistence between generations, with a program that brings together children, young people, adults and seniors in different activities. The initiative runs from September 16 to 22, within the scope of European Mobility Week 2026, under the theme "Mobility for All – Intergenerational Equity". The Municipality of Penafiel has prepared activities aimed at the school community and the general public, including bike rides, walks and an intergenerational train journey.
The program kicks off with a Photography Contest aimed at primary school children, running from September 14 to 18. On the 19th, the initiatives "Generations Cycling" at 9:30 AM and "Generations Walking" at 8:30 PM take place. On Sunday, September 20, between 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM, the streets host the "Streets for Play" initiative, while the following day features an Intergenerational Train Journey.
The week ends on September 22 with European Car-Free Day, in a day dedicated to alternative mobility. On that same day, at 2:30 PM, the Point C venue hosts the conversation "Cities for People, Living Businesses", dedicated to pedestrianization and the relationship between public space and commercial activity. Registrations for the "Generations Cycling" and "Generations Walking" initiatives are already open, and participation in the Walk15 – Steps Challenge 2026 can also be followed through the Walk15 app.
