Célia Pessegueiro, from the Socialist party, warned of vineyard abandonment during a visit to the Harvest Festival, which took place in Estreito de Câmara de Lobos. The socialist listened to complaints from local producers about the problems affecting the wine sector in the region.
During the visit, producers presented several concerns, including the lack of labor that hinders vineyard maintenance. This worker shortage represents a significant challenge for farmers in the area.
In addition to the worker shortage, producers complained about the low incomes they obtain from wine activity. The difficult economic situation for those working in the sector was one of the topics raised during the event.
Bureaucracy was another complaint expressed by producers to the socialist. Administrative hurdles and the complexity of legal processes were identified as additional obstacles that contribute to vineyard abandonment in the region.
