The representative structures of the Public Security Police (PSP) and the National Republican Guard (GNR) accepted resuming negotiations with the Ministry of Internal Administration, represented by Minister Luís Neves. The decision comes after a period of contestation and protests by security force agents.
However, representatives of the two police forces issued a clear warning: the protests that have been marking the sector will only be suspended in the face of concrete and immediate commitments. In other words, returning to the negotiating table is not enough — effective guarantees are demanded regarding the measures that will be taken.
The agents demand better working conditions, salary updates, and responses to their labor complaints. The negotiation with the MAI had been interrupted, which led to the escalation of protest actions in recent weeks.
The meeting accepted by the representative structures presents an opportunity to find a solution that satisfies both parties, but everything will depend on the concrete proposals the Ministry is willing to present.
