A 45-year-old foreign citizen was arrested in the early hours of today on "strong suspicion" of two qualified homicides and corpse desecration in Lagos. The arrest was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department of Portimão of the Judicial Police, with the collaboration of the GNR of Lagos.
The victims are a couple of entrepreneurs in the health sector, a 79-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman, who have been residing in Portugal for several years. The suspect, who has no known criminal record, worked as a caretaker at the couple's home.
According to the PJ, the victims were first struck with a "blunt object" that caused their death. Subsequently, the suspect dragged the bodies inside a cistern on the property with the aim of hiding the bodies, even attempting to decompose them with chemical products.
When located in the vicinity of the scene by the GNR of Lagos, the suspect was found in possession of "quite a bit of money and valuable objects" presumably belonging to the victims. The detainee will be brought before the JIC of Portimão for the first interrogation and application of precautionary measures.
