The Maritime Police filed a lawsuit against the State and the Navy, submitted to the Administrative Court of Lisbon, to denounce what it classifies as a situation of "total chaos" in its local commands.
The action was filed by Maritime Police inspectors, who denounce that local commands are operating with only one police officer on duty, which significantly compromises the functioning and response capacity of these services.
According to the complaint, local commands are closed to the public from 5:00 PM, which represents a serious limitation in citizens' access to Maritime Police services during the afternoon and evening hours.
The situation arises in the context of alleged serious failures in the organization and functioning of the Maritime Police, whose operational command belongs to the Navy/Armed Forces, leading the inspectors to seek a judicial resolution for what they consider to be an unsustainable situation.
