The Fire Department continues the search for at least four people who are under the rubble of a building under construction that collapsed onto houses in the Penha neighborhood, in the East Zone of São Paulo, in the early hours of Saturday. The collapse happened around 2am in the morning, during a heavy rain. Two deaths have already been confirmed and the bodies of the victims were recovered throughout the early morning.
Two other people were rescued alive from the rubble: a 7-year-old child and a 30-year-old man. There is also the possibility that two more people may be buried, but the firefighters have not yet confirmed this information.
According to Colonel Diogenes Munhoz, who commands the rescue operations, the building had ten floors and was already showing structural cracks according to reports the corporation had access to. The construction was under embargo, but it is still not known if it underwent any renovations in recent days.
