Carlos César, president of PS, defended the party's position in the voting on Chega's motion of censure against the Government, explaining that the abstention allowed the rejection of the motion without PS becoming "advisory of the Executive". The socialist leader underscored that the social democrats did not intend to add "disruption" to the functioning of the political system.
The motion of censure presented by Chega was rejected in the Assembly of the Republic, with PS's abstention being decisive for this result. Carlos César justified the party's decision as a way of respecting democratic rules without compromising the opposition that PS maintains to the Government.
The president of PS took the opportunity to warn that Montenegro, prime minister, needs to hear the party's demands for budget negotiation. These demands will have to be taken into account if the Executive intends to secure support for the approval of the next State Budget.
