Former minister João Galamba harshly criticized the PS leadership, classifying its actions as "a very poor service to the country," in reference to policies regarding fuels and renewable energy.
Galamba's reaction came following the PS Municipal Convention, which was held in Leiria and brought together about a thousand elected party officials to debate the local finance law.
At the convention, the socialists put forward proposals to strengthen the financial power of municipalities, including doubling the portion of income tax and VAT transferred to local authorities.
Participants also proposed that municipalities be assigned a direct share of the profits generated by renewable energy production, at a time when this issue is at the center of national political debate.
