Orlando transformed the commemoration of the September 11th attacks into a major community solidarity action. During a mobilization held at the Central Florida Fairgrounds, volunteers prepared and packaged 210,000 meals destined for people and families in vulnerable situations.
The initiative brought together employees from four of the largest companies and foundations in the Central Florida region, who united to honor the memory of the victims of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks through a concrete gesture of helping others.
The mobilization took place during the week when the United States commemorates the 25th anniversary of the attacks that left thousands dead and caused profound changes in the country. Rather than simply remembering the victims, participants were invited to act for the benefit of the local community.
The action demonstrated the strength of volunteering in Orlando, where companies and residents frequently unite in social assistance campaigns. For the community, the message was clear: remembering those who are gone also means helping those in need today.
