Around 150 people gathered today in the center of Schwerin to participate in a protest calling for the constitutional verification of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. The protests took place under the slogan "Nie wieder ist jetzt" ("Never again is now"), visible on the signs raised by participants.
The protests occurred just eight days before the state elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a German federal state where a significant regional ballot is being held.
The protesters demand that AfD be formally investigated and potentially banned on suspicion of unconstitutional activities, a process that would allow the German Constitutional Court to assess whether the party violates the fundamental principles of the country's constitution.
