The Spanish Football Federation will fund egg freezing for its international players. The measure was announced by the RFEF as part of an initiative to support players in reconciling their sporting careers with motherhood.
Player Alexia Putellas, a two-time Ballon d'Or winner, expressed support for the initiative, as did other Spanish internationals who applauded the federation's decision.
However, jumper Ana Peleteiro and gymnast Ona Carbonell raised questions about the measure. Both questioned whether funding egg freezing truly represents reconciling, or if it merely postpones motherhood instead of making it viable during a sporting career.
The debate emerges in the broader context of the struggle of women in Spanish sport for equality and the right to be mothers without this compromising their professional careers.
