British cryptocurrency billionaire Ben Delo donated £36 million, approximately R$ 249.6 million, to the Reform UK party, led by Nigel Farage. According to the BBC, this is the largest individual contribution ever made to a political party in the United Kingdom. The values in reais were calculated with the pound at approximately R$ 6.93.
Ben Delo is a billionaire in the cryptocurrency sector and a billionaire from the BitMEX trading platform, of which he is a co-founder. He stated that he decided to fund Reform UK to provide a "fair contest" in the British political landscape. Nigel Farage said he was "honored and grateful" for the support received.
Initially, the businessman planned to donate £1 million, approximately R$ 6.9 million, per month until 2029, the deadline by which the Labour government must call the next general election. However, given the possibility of new restrictions on large political contributions, Delo decided to deliver the entire planned amount early.
