Olive Oil Museum takes Oliveira do Hospital to the final of the New 7 Wonders of Portugal

SAPO Notícias12 September 2026 at 10:11

The Olive Oil Museum, located in Bobadela, in the municipality of Oliveira do Hospital, is one of the finalists of the "New 7 Wonders of Portugal" contest, in the 21st Century Architecture category. The cultural space is competing among the best architectural facilities built in Portugal in recent decades. The grand final of the contest is scheduled for September 12, when the winners of each category will be announced. With this nomination, the Olive Oil Museum once again puts the name of Oliveira do Hospital in the spotlight at the national level. The museum also represents the territory of the Coimbra Region in this competition.

Why this matters

Readers from the Coimbra region and from Oliveira do Hospital now have the opportunity to follow and support a local cultural space in a competition of national scope. A possible victory for the museum would represent an important milestone for tourism and the cultural enhancement of the region, boosting the visibility of the territory and its traditional products, such as olive oil.

"Guardians of the Lord of Patience"

The Feast of the Lord of Patience takes place this Sunday, September 13, at the Monastery of Santo António, in Lombo dos Aguiares, Madeira, with the solemn Eucharist at 5:00 PM presided by D. Nuno Brás, bishop of Funchal, followed by a procession. The Poor Clares have kept this devotion alive for more than half a century, linked to the memory of the Servant of God Mother Virginia Brites da Paixão, defining themselves as "guardians of the Lord of Patience." This year marks the debut of a new hymn dedicated to the Lord of Patience, with lyrics by Sister Maria da Cruz and music by Fr. Ignácio Rodrigues, an initiative of Fr. André Pinheiro that involved the parishes of Visitação and Graça in organizing the celebrations.
