Visual artist Isa Toledo, a resident of Baixa for ten years, decided to walk through the neighborhood's shops in search of objects she considers banal to create a free exhibition in Lisbon. The project was inspired by the desire to draw attention to the local commerce of the area.
The exhibition is installed in a storefront in Baixa and can be visited until October. Isa Toledo selected common and seemingly unimportant objects, transforming them into pieces of an exhibition that aims to value local commerce.
The artist believes the project can spark people's interest in Baixa's traditional shops, many of which face difficulties competing with large retail spaces and online commerce. The initiative comes at a time when many historic establishments in the area risk closing.
