Oeiras celebrates European Mobility Week 2026 between September 16 and 22. The municipality prepares a diverse program to mark this European initiative dedicated to sustainable mobility.

The event invites the local community to experience new forms of transportation throughout the week. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about more sustainable transportation alternatives integrated into daily life.

The celebration also aims to challenge citizens to rethink their relationship with public space. The initiative promotes reflection on how transportation modes influence urban life and the environmental quality of the municipality.

Information about this celebration was shared by the Olhares de Lisboa portal, which reported on the activities scheduled for the event in the municipality of Oeiras.

Why this matters

Oeiras residents have the opportunity to participate in events that promote sustainable mobility alternatives, encouraging the adoption of more ecological means of transportation. The initiative is part of a broader European effort to raise awareness among citizens about the importance of rethinking how they move around cities.

"Guardians of the Lord of Patience"

The Feast of the Lord of Patience takes place this Sunday, September 13, at the Monastery of Santo António, in Lombo dos Aguiares, Madeira, with the solemn Eucharist at 5:00 PM presided by D. Nuno Brás, bishop of Funchal, followed by a procession. The Poor Clares have kept this devotion alive for more than half a century, linked to the memory of the Servant of God Mother Virginia Brites da Paixão, defining themselves as "guardians of the Lord of Patience." This year marks the debut of a new hymn dedicated to the Lord of Patience, with lyrics by Sister Maria da Cruz and music by Fr. Ignácio Rodrigues, an initiative of Fr. André Pinheiro that involved the parishes of Visitação and Graça in organizing the celebrations.
