The Guarda Nacional Republicana issued an alert regarding the significant worsening of rural fire danger in the coming days in Portugal. This warning comes at a critical period for fire safety in the country.
Since the beginning of the year, the GNR has recorded a total of 7,034 rural fires in Portuguese territory. This high number of incidents demonstrates the severity of the situation regarding forest fires in the country.
As part of operations to combat fires and investigate their causes, military authorities proceeded with the detention of 172 suspects. These detentions come as a result of efforts to identify and hold accountable those responsible for the fires recorded throughout the year.
