The irregularities in ticket sales and overcrowding of Maracanã sectors committed during games of Flamengo and Fluminense were proven by the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro through the analysis of spreadsheets and reports from matches since last year. The Specialized Action Group for Sports and Supporter Defense (Gaedest/MPRJ) sent the suspicions at the end of August to the Urban Planning Justice Prosecutor's Office.
Before formalizing the complaint, prosecutors attended the games at the Maracanã to attest to the problem. During the matches, they verified firsthand the compliance with the General Sports Law and found that the volume of supporters entering exceeded the stadium's capacity, mainly during Flamengo games.
Gaedest identified that specific sectors of the Maracanã, managed by the duo Flamengo and Fluminense, were overcrowded. The problems were more pronounced in the north sector and the reserved seats. Based on these observations, the authorities analyzed the spreadsheets showing how many supporters entered the stadium to confirm the irregularities.
