A legendary Enigma machine, bought by Franco, is located at the San Carlos Military History Museum, in the Porto Pi harbor in Palma de Mallorca. The device is stored in a worn oak wood box, resting on an office desk, neither displayed in a showcase nor carefully lit.
The museum director, Juan Rigo, lifted the lid of the transport box to reveal the metallic apparatus inside. At first glance, the machine resembles a typewriter from the early 20th century, but it has no type bars, platens, or line change levers.
Instead, the device features three rows of small light bulbs distributed behind 26 shutters with the letters of the alphabet, an encryption system used during World War II. The presence of this Enigma machine in Mallorca is part of the military collection preserved in this museum dedicated to the military history of the region.
