From next October, recreational vessels in the Pitiusas, that is, in Ibiza and Formentera, will not be able to be rented to people who do not hold any nautical qualification. This prohibition was published in the Spanish Official State Gazette (BOE) and aims to regulate an activity that was until now allowed without restrictions.
The maritime captain of Ibiza and Formentera, Luis Gascón Rius, explained that "it will no longer be possible to carry out this lucrative activity in this way". The official highlighted that this decision comes as a response to the problems that have been occurring in the Pitiusas islands caused by vessels rented to unqualified people.
Gascón expressed his support for this new prohibition, considering it a necessary measure to guarantee safety in navigation. The regulation will prevent the rental of certain recreational vessels to people who do not have the corresponding nautical qualification required by law.
