Amid the lifting of secrecy on investigations into Banco Master, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva raised the tone during a rally in Porto Alegre on Friday. The president tried to link banker Daniel Vorcaro to the government of Jair Bolsonaro, stating that during the former president's term, Vorcaro was created as a banker, while in his own term he became a prisoner.
Lula stated that Vorcaro was arrested for perpetrating the biggest scam in the country's history. The banker was arrested in March of this year under suspicion of involvement with Comando Branco, a criminal organization operating in Rio de Janeiro.
The president also commented on the embezzlement of INSS pensions. Lula said that the Comptroller General of the Union investigated the case for two years and stated he is in favor of opening a CPI to investigate the scheme. However, there were opposing positions within his own government regarding the creation of the commission.
The president accused the opposition of trying to shift the scandal onto his government, stating that the INSS gang was set up during the Bolsonaro government and that it was he who dismantled the scheme. Lula is a candidate for reelection.
