Swedish Oliver Solberg, driving a Toyota Yaris, finished the first stage of Rally Chile in the lead, with a 10.1-second advantage over British Elfyn Evans, also in a Toyota Yaris. Evans is the current leader of the World Rally Championship, the WRC.
This was Solberg's debut at the Chilean event driving a car from the Rally1 category, the main category of the championship. On Friday, the Swedish driver won two of the six stages held, demonstrating good adaptation to the competition rhythm.
Solberg managed to adapt to the constant changes in surface conditions during the stage, which started muddy and became progressively drier throughout the day. This versatility was decisive in maintaining the advantage over Evans until the end of the first stage.
