Saudi Arabia closes pipeline bypassing Strait of Hormuz after drone attacks launched from Iraq

oglobo11 September 2026 at 23:37

Saudi Arabia closed the East-West pipeline, an important alternative to the Strait of Hormuz for its oil exports, after attacks with several drones launched from Iraq on Thursday morning. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the attacks left several injured and caused damage to the structure, and that they are being investigated and repaired.

The Ministry of Energy reported that the pipeline was closed as a precaution. Emergency teams were mobilized to protect the structure and assess its security conditions.

At the request of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Ali al-Zaidi, Riyadh chose not to respond to the attacks at this time and stated that it supports the efforts of the Iraqi government to prevent attacks launched from Iraq against the kingdom and neighboring countries.
