Helena Afonso, daughter of singer and songwriter José Afonso, died at the age of 72. She was the founder of the José Afonso Association, an institution dedicated to the memory and work of the artist known as Zeca Afonso.

The wake takes place this Saturday in Caldas da Rainha, the city where the funeral ceremonies will also be held.

Helena Afonso dedicated much of her life to preserving and promoting her father's musical and cultural legacy, one of the most important figures in Portuguese music and a symbol of the struggle for freedom during the Estado Novo period.
