The district of Santarém, including the municipality of Almeirim, is under yellow warning due to forecast high temperatures. The alert was issued by the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) and communicated by the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Almeirim, in effect between 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 12, and 5:00 PM on Monday, September 14.
The reason for this warning is related to the high maximum temperature values forecast for the period in question. Authorities warn that the meteorological conditions contribute to an increase in the risk of rural fire.
Given this increased risk, authorities remind that several legally provided restrictions remain in force. On days when the rural fire danger is classified as very high or maximum, the carrying out of extensive controlled burns and burning of debris piles is prohibited.
The use of fire for cooking food in rural areas is also prohibited, except in locations expressly authorized for that purpose. The restrictions also cover fumigation or pest control in apiaries, except when the procedures are authorized by the competent authorities.
