The National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP) expressed its position on the future model of the Portuguese news agency, LusA Agency. The organization argues that any new model for the agency must guarantee a balance between several fundamental principles.
According to ANMP, the future model must ensure the agency's editorial independence, guaranteeing that the information produced is not influenced by external or political pressures. This is considered an essential element for the news agency's credibility and trustworthiness.
In addition to editorial independence, the association believes the model should include stability and effectiveness in the agency's management. This must be combined with adequate democratic oversight, accompanied by mechanisms for transparency, participation and accountability to citizens and institutions. ANMP thus emphasizes the need for a balance between editorial autonomy and responsibility to the public and democratic institutions.
