The Povoado de Vale Feitoso, in the parish of Pêro Viseu, in the municipality of Fundão, will open its archaeological excavations to the public on a guided visit day scheduled for Tuesday, September 15th, between 10h00 and 15h00. The initiative allows visitors to closely follow the field work and learn about the history of one of the lesser-known heritage sites in the municipality of Fundão.
The organization belongs to the Municipality of Fundão, through the Municipal Museum, in direct partnership with the Parish Council of Pêro Viseu. The protohistoric site is under the scientific coordination of Professor Raquel Vilaça and researcher Pedro Batista, both connected to the Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra. The excavation campaigns have allowed the collection of fundamental data about the patterns and dynamics of ancient settlement in Central Portugal's Interior.
The activity is part of the official program of the European Heritage Days, a celebration that this year has the motto "Revive, Resist, Reinvent". The objective aims to bring the populations closer to scientific research, transforming the archaeological intervention into a pedagogical moment and a community cultural enjoyment. During the visit, participants will be able to observe the different phases of field work, the methods of stratigraphic recording, and dialog directly with the specialists responsible for the excavation.
The gathering of all participants is scheduled at the headquarters of the Parish Council of Pêro Viseu, the starting point for the journey to the excavation site.
