Nepal estimates cost of 4.78 billion dollars for reconstruction

Diário de Coimbra11 September 2026 at 20:30

Nepal estimated a cost of 4.78 billion dollars for reconstruction after the devastation caused by a flood in August. This amount represents the value needed to recover the affected areas and rebuild infrastructure destroyed by the natural disaster.

The August flood caused more than 1,400 dead in the country. In addition to the fatalities, thousands of people were left missing following the catastrophe, which affected various regions of Nepal.

The Nepali government is working on a reconstruction plan that aims to restore housing, roads, bridges and other essential infrastructure in the areas most affected by the tragedy. The international community has been offering humanitarian support to the country.

Nepal, one of the countries most vulnerable to natural disasters, now faces the challenge of mobilizing sufficient financial resources to cover the estimated reconstruction costs, in an economic context already marked by other difficulties.
