The president of the United States, Donald Trump, linked the current war being fought against Iran in the Middle East to the continuation of the response to terrorism after the September 11, 2001 attack. The statement was made during a speech at the Pentagon, which was targeted by one of the four aircraft taken by Al-Qaeda terrorists that day. Trump was absent from the ceremony in New York, where the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center stood, which collapsed 25 years ago.
During the memorial ceremony at the Pentagon, Trump stated that the US was renewing the oath made to the victims of September 11 a quarter of a century ago. He declared: "Never, ever will we forget. This is why we fight today." The president also stated there is no choice but victory and that the US fights with strength.
The ceremony at the Pentagon honored the victims of the 2001 terrorist attack, when one of the hijacked planes struck the US Department of Defense building, causing hundreds of deaths. The event took place on the same day that New York was also commemorating the 25th anniversary of the attacks that toppled the Twin Towers.
