The first debate between candidates for the government of Alagoas, held by TV Gazeta on Thursday night (10), put face to face the former governor and former transportation minister under the Lula government, Renan Filho (MDB), and the former mayor of Maceió, João Henrique Caldas, known as JHC (PSDB). Both are competing for the 2026 state succession and used the space to exchange accusations, provocations, and personal attacks, although they maintained calm during most of the confrontation.
Public security was one of the central themes of the debate. Renan Filho presented the proposal to use artificial intelligence in combating crime in the state and again criticized JHC for, according to him, not presenting a concrete response for the security area. The former mayor, in turn, defended investments in intelligence and promised to expand the police force as part of his proposals for the sector.
