The British Parliament definitively rejected the assisted suicide bill in England and Wales after nearly two years of intense debates and close votes. Members of the House of Commons rejected the text in a vote held on Friday, with 270 votes in favor and 286 against.

The result was a surprise for supporters of the law, who expected approval, and contradicts the opinion of the majority of the British population, which had clearly positioned itself in favor of legalizing assisted suicide. The close vote reflects the division existing in society on this issue.
