TRE-RJ bars candidate for deputy over suspected ties to Comando Vermelho leadership

The Regional Electoral Court of Rio de Janeiro unanimously barred on Friday the candidacy of Mariana de Souza, from PP, for the Chamber of Deputies. The decision was made by TRE-RJ after an impugnment filed by the Electoral Public Ministry.

The MPE pointed to suspected ties of the candidate with the upper echelon of Comando Vermelho. Among the evidence cited was her relationship with her husband Wilson Marques de Albuquerque, known as "Zé Dirceu", identified by the Public Security Secretariat of Alagoas as the number two of the faction in the state.

After the trial, the president of TRE-RJ, Claudio Mello Tavares, stated that the decision represents a response from the Electoral Justice to the acting of criminality in politics.
