The Macau Court announced that the trial of Au Kam San, former deputy of the Legislative Assembly of Macau, begins on Wednesday. The process will take place behind closed doors, which the international lawyer of the defendant considered to be a decision that reveals that "the authorities are too ashamed to submit to scrutiny".
Au Kam San faces charges under the National Security Law imposed by Beijing on Macau. His international lawyer described the "inevitable conviction" as "punishment for his belief and defense of democracy, disguised in legal language".
The lawyer also revealed that he will present the case to the United Nations working group on arbitrary detention, in an effort to alert the international community to the circumstances of the process.
