National Road 109 should be transferred to municipal management and receive 1.1 million euros for works

Defesa de Espinho11 September 2026 at 16:50

National Road 109, currently managed by Infraestruturas de Portugal, should be transferred to the municipal road network of Espinho, in a process that will include a financial funding of 1.1 million euros for intervention works on the section between Ponte de Anta and Paramos, a total of 6.225 kilometres.

The Espinho Municipal Council managed to increase by approximately 296 thousand euros the funding initially planned by Infraestruturas de Portugal. The municipality explained that the initial solution, assessed at around 800 thousand euros, was essentially intended for road paving, but considered that it would not make sense to proceed in this way, as the road would subsequently be reopened for interventions on the underground networks.

The Mayor, Jorge Ratola, revealed that a different solution was insisted upon, which includes an integrated intervention in the existing infrastructure. The municipal services are identifying the needs in terms of water supply networks, sanitation, rainwater, electricity, gas and telecommunications, as well as interventions on the pavement, drainage, road safety, sidewalks and public lighting. The intervention will be developed in a phased and coordinated manner with the entities responsible for the networks.

The transfer of the management of EN 109 to the municipality will now be submitted to the deliberation of the Espinho Municipal Assembly.
