Maracanã will host on the 27th an NFL game, the American football league, between the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens. The game is valid for the third week of the league's regular season and is part of the NFL's international calendar expansion, which includes games in different countries throughout the 2026 season.
The stadium's biggest concern is with the possible impacts that the match could cause to the grass. Fred Nantes, CEO of the Consortium that manages Maracanã, stated at a press conference that it is not yet known what damage may occur, since it is the first time the NFL plays at the venue.
According to Nantes, the team is working to minimize damage to the field and, if necessary, may carry out partial grass replacements. The CEO guaranteed that the field will be in adequate condition for the Fluminense match, scheduled for ten days after the NFL game.
