From Bon Jovi to Coldplay: recall Rock in Rio editions marked by shows during storms

oglobo11 September 2026 at 15:47

The tradition of Rock in Rio being held under rain is present since the festival's first edition in 1985, when the mud became part of the event's collective memory. Over the years, several memorable shows took place during storms, including iconic performances like the "Love of My Life" sing-along at Queen's show and Bruce Dickinson's bloodied face after the Iron Maiden vocalist accidentally hit his forehead with the guitar neck. The mystique of the "roots festival" under rain remains a defining characteristic of the event.

In the first weekend of Rock in Rio 2026, the sun briefly appeared, but rain and cold dominated Cidade do Rock. Fans of Sepultura, Bad Omens and Bring Me the Horizon embraced the festival's more "roots" climate, forming pogo circles with rain ponchos bumping into each other. Performances like those of Black Eyed Peas and Calvin Harris are already considered some of the wettest in the event's history.

Everything indicates that the second weekend will follow the same bad weather pattern. Even before the gates opened, Stray Kids fans had already prepared with plastic outfits to face the weather conditions, waiting to enter the festival for over twelve hours.

CADERNOS DO ORIENTE – WHEN PAINTING SAYS GOODBYE: «QUARENTENA» ENTERS ITS FINAL HOUR AT CASA GARDEN

The "Quarentena" exhibition by Carlos Morais José, which crosses painting and poetry at Casa Garden — Fundação Oriente in Macau, holds its closing session on September 12, 2026, at 4:30 PM, with a final conversation with the author in the Lower Gallery. The exhibition, inspired by Morais José's poetry, explores the relationship between pictorial matter and literary dimension, proposing a territory where image and word approach one another without one illustrating the other. The title evokes suspension, retreat, and transformation, summoning a reflection on isolation and interiority. For those who have not yet visited the exhibition, this session represents the last opportunity to discover the work and participate in dialogue with the artist.
