Fred Nantes, CEO of the Consortium that manages the Maracanã, publicly acknowledged that the stadium's grass is not at the quality the administration would like. The statement was made in a press conference this Friday. The former Conmebol executive presented a grass maintenance project for the venue where Flamengo and Fluminense play their home games until the end of this season.

Fred Nantes stated that there is no negligence on the part of the Maracanã regarding the grass, but that there are situations that are not under the consortium's control. He emphasized the importance of careful analysis of the turf condition based on technical data.

The Maracanã's grass has been receiving criticism from players in recent days. After Fluminense's victory over Vasco in the Brasileirão, right-back Guga stated that he doesn't remember ever playing in such poor conditions in Brazilian football. Players commented on the state of the field in the locker rooms after the match.
