Dino asks for emphasis and takes discussion about changes to the Ficha Limpa Law to in-person session in the chamber

Minister Flávio Dino, of the Supreme Federal Court, asked this Friday for an emphasis in the virtual judgment on changes to the Ficha Limpa Law, which transfers the discussion to the in-person format in the Court's chamber. The case is proceeding in ADI (Direct Action of Unconstitutionality) 7881 and analyzes the validity of Complementary Law 219 of 2025, which changes the starting moment for counting the 8-year period of ineligibility for politically convicted individuals.

Currently, this period is calculated from the beginning of sentence serving. Under the proposed change, it would take effect from the date of conviction, which could benefit politicians who have already served their sentences and seek to return to public life.

The judgment result has the potential to directly affect the candidacies of former governors José Roberto Arruda, of the Federal District, Anthony Garotinho, of Rio de Janeiro, in addition to former Chamber President Eduardo Cunha, all legally convicted and currently out of the active political scene.
