53-year-old man remains in preventive detention for domestic violence

Jornal O Almeirinense11 September 2026 at 14:50

A 53-year-old man was arrested by the Republican National Guard on September 9 in the municipality of Rio Maior, on suspicion of committing the crime of domestic violence against his wife, a 44-year-old woman. The arrest was carried out as part of an investigation conducted by the Specialized Victim Support and Investigation Unit of the Territorial Command of Santarém of the GNR.

The actions carried out by the military personnel made it possible to determine that the suspect was exercising psychological violence against the victim, his spouse. During the operation, the officers executed an arrest warrant outside the crime scene.

On September 10, the detainee was presented to the Judicial Court of Santarém, where the most severe precautionary measure was applied: preventive detention.

The GNR recalls that domestic violence is a public crime and that reporting it is a collective responsibility.
