Nepal will need at least 4.78 billion dollars (4.12 billion euros) to rebuild the areas affected by the August flood, Nepalese diplomacy announced today. This estimate represents the total cost needed for the recovery of the devastated regions.
The flood was caused by the collapse of a glacier and rocks, which originated a devastating wave in the region's valleys. The phenomenon caused more than 1,400 dead and 5,600 injured in Nepal and China, according to the most recent official tolls.
Among those still missing are hundreds of foreign tourists and pilgrims, which highlights the international dimension of the disaster. Authorities continue search and rescue efforts in the affected areas.
