Ardi Rizal was an Indonesian baby who, at just over a year old, already showed intense signs of nicotine dependence, consuming up to 40 cigarettes a day. When the family tried to take the cigarettes away from him, the boy had tantrums and would hit his head. The case gained international attention in 2010, after a video posted on YouTube showed Ardi walking in diapers while smoking.

Ardi lived in the village of Teluk Kemang, in southern Sumatra, Indonesia. His mother, Diana, worked selling fish. Still very small, he began picking up cigarettes in a plaza in the area, after observing other people smoking. In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald in 2017, it was reported that his first cigarette had been offered to him when he was still a baby.
