Cancer cases linked to 9/11 increase in US 25 years after the attack

On the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks in New York, the number of cancer cases associated with exposure to toxic air after the attacks has increased significantly. According to the most recent official data, released in August, at least 57,000 cases have already been recognized, compared to about 5,600 records a decade ago. The increase also reflects the advancement in knowledge about the effects of exposure to toxic smoke and dust after the attacks. Over the years, new research and medical analyses, as well as lawsuits, have helped establish the relationship between different types of cancer and the contamination caused by the disaster.
