The Council of Ministers approved the new Science and Innovation Law, which aims to reorganize the national research and innovation system in Portugal.
Fernando Alexandre, Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, stated that the new diploma will allow mitigating the fragmentation of the national scientific system.
According to the government official, the new law presents a different conceptual framework from the previous one, introducing significant changes in the way the system is organized.
One of the main novelties is that any entity may apply for the research entity seal, no longer being an exclusive right limited to traditional research institutions.
