The trial of two PSP agents accused of torturing several citizens at the Rato police station began this Friday at the Justice Campus in Lisbon. The two police officers face charges related to ill-treatment practiced against citizens at that police station.

The court decided to hold the hearings behind closed doors, justifying this decision with the need to protect the dignity and privacy of victims. This confidentiality measure aims to protect the people who were subjected to the acts of torture allegedly committed by the two agents.

The trial took place this Friday, but only the reading of the final verdict will be public, with the rest of the process remaining under confidentiality during the trial phase.

Three people rescued in Viana after vessel drifts at sea

Three people, two of Spanish nationality and one Swedish, aged between 25 and 40, were rescued on Thursday night after the high-speed vessel they were on drifted about 60 nautical miles west of Viana do Castelo. The occupants were initially picked up by a merchant ship that also towed the vessel, and were then transferred to maritime authorities two nautical miles from the outer breakwater of Viana do Castelo. The forces mobilized included the Lifeboat Station, Maritime Police, Port Captaincy, Judicial Police and GNR.
