A fire broke out in an abandoned house in the city center of Vila Real, during the early morning of this Thursday. The flames completely destroyed the dwelling.

The fire ended up causing injuries to a man, who was treated at the scene. The circumstances in which the man was in the abandoned house were not specified.

The competent authorities were alerted to the occurrence and went to the scene to fight the fire and provide assistance to those involved.

Three people rescued in Viana after vessel drifts at sea

Three people, two of Spanish nationality and one Swedish, aged between 25 and 40, were rescued on Thursday night after the high-speed vessel they were on drifted about 60 nautical miles west of Viana do Castelo. The occupants were initially picked up by a merchant ship that also towed the vessel, and were then transferred to maritime authorities two nautical miles from the outer breakwater of Viana do Castelo. The forces mobilized included the Lifeboat Station, Maritime Police, Port Captaincy, Judicial Police and GNR. The three citizens "were physically well" and were identified, while the Spanish-flagged vessel was seized as a precautionary measure.
