The Twin Towers returned to occupy New York's skyline, 25 years after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. In an immense tribute held over the city's harbor, 2,977 drones aligned in the sky to reproduce, in real size, the outline of the destroyed buildings. Named "2,977 lights over New York harbor," the presentation took place on Wednesday night.
Each drone symbolized one of the victims of the attacks, which struck the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania. Images of the ceremony show the illuminated equipment assuming different positions until forming the silhouette of the two towers.
The memorial was developed by artists and producers in collaboration with survivors, first responders, and family members of people killed in the attacks. Among the participants was Terry Strada, widow of Tom Strada, who worked on the 104th floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center and died after the first plane hit the building.
