Rapper Nelly was performing on the World Stage at Rock in Rio on Sunday (6), while Adriana Lopes, Luana Almeida, and Victor Pascoalini worked in a nearby container, in front of a green chroma key screen, performing simultaneous translation of the songs into Libras, the Brazilian sign language. The interpreters took turns every ten minutes at most in front of the camera.
The interpreters' image gained even more prominence on the festival's new LED screen, which spans 2,400 square meters. Luana Almeida, who interpreted "Maladragem dá um tempo" by Barão Vermelho, ended up going viral on social media with her gestures for the lyrics "vou apertar, mas não vou acender agora."
According to Luana, the deaf person has the right to feel and understand what the music means, which is why she sought a more literal interpretation. The interpreters want the stage to be treated as a separate attraction from the event.
