The trial of two agents from the Rato Police Station began today at the Justice Campus, taking place behind closed doors. The two police officers are accused of torture and rape crimes.

The case is being conducted with confidentiality, with no outsiders permitted in the court during the trial sessions.

In parallel, proposals were also presented by the Medical Association to attract doctors to the interior regions of the country, in an attempt to resolve the shortage of health professionals in these areas.

Three people rescued in Viana after vessel drifts at sea

Three people, two of Spanish nationality and one Swedish, aged between 25 and 40, were rescued on Thursday night after the high-speed vessel they were on drifted about 60 nautical miles west of Viana do Castelo. The occupants were initially picked up by a merchant ship that also towed the vessel, and were then transferred to maritime authorities two nautical miles from the outer breakwater of Viana do Castelo. The forces mobilized included the Lifeboat Station, Maritime Police, Port Captaincy, Judicial Police and GNR. The three citizens "were physically well" and were identified, while the Spanish-flagged vessel was seized as a precautionary measure.
